The Story of Buda

Small-Town Roots. Central Texas Growth.

Buda's modern story took shape around the railroad in 1881, when a townsite developed around a station of the International-Great Northern Railroad. Originally known as Du Pre, the community was renamed Buda in the late nineteenth century.

Over time, the small agricultural and railroad community evolved alongside the growth of Central Texas while preserving a historic downtown that remains an important part of Buda's identity today.

Before Buda

Antioch Colony

Before Buda was established as a railroad town, formerly enslaved African Americans began acquiring land nearby during Reconstruction and established what became known as Antioch Colony.

Beginning around 1870, families built a rural community centered around land ownership, agriculture, education, churches and civic organizations. Antioch developed its own school district, and its history remains recognized today through a Texas Historical Commission marker near Old Black Colony Road.

New Construction

New Construction in the Buda Area

Don't compare only the price. Compare the cost of the money.

Builder incentives on new construction can take several forms, including permanent interest-rate incentives, temporary buydowns, closing-cost contributions, price reductions, or inventory-specific incentives.

No single option is always the better one — the right comparison depends on the buyer, the loan program, the specific property and the expected ownership horizon. Prairie Lakes, built by D.R. Horton, is one example in the Buda area where builder financing is worth evaluating alongside price.

Builder incentives, financing programs, rates and availability are subject to change and may depend on property, lender, loan program, qualification and closing requirements.

Property Taxes

Taxing jurisdictions vary by property — there is no single universal "Buda tax rate."

New Construction vs. Resale

The lowest purchase price is not always the lowest-cost home.

A builder's financing incentive can materially change a monthly payment, while an established resale property may offer advantages that new construction does not. Eliani evaluates the complete financial picture with every buyer:

Already Own a Home in Buda?

Selling in an area with active new construction requires more than choosing a listing price. Builder inventory, financing incentives, competing resale homes, property condition, upgrades and current buyer demand can all influence how a home should be positioned.
